What a wonderful day we had in first grade today.  The class is doing such a super job on their memory work.  Memory for Thursday is on pg. 16 of their bible story book.  They should have a math sheet to do tonight and they brought home a permission slip for our trip to the Brickyard Schoolhouse.

Today we reviewed the Eagle Eyes reading strategy and Stretchy Snake.  These strategies are a fun way to help kids become better readers.

We are starting to work on coins and money.  We will continue to work on this on and off throughout the year.  We are starting with pennies and will slowly add more coins throughout the year as our confidence blossoms.  Our objectives for the year include identifying the major coins and telling the value.  Kids also need to be able to count groups of like coins and give the value.  Counting money is a great way to reinforce all the skip counting we do.

Oh, one more thing.  Remember, tomorrow is picture day!
Tonight your student should have a math sheet to finish for tomorrow.

Please take time to talk to them about weather and see if they can tell you that wind is moving air and that all weather is created in our atmosphere.  We had a blast "catching wind" with some pinwheels and found that we could even make some wind by blowing on it!  What a fun day we had.

I forgot to have the kids circle Monday's memory work, but it is found on page 14 of the memory book and it is, "We know that for those who love God all things work together for good."  Romans 8:28

That is one of my favorite Bible verses and lends itself so well to the story of Joseph, and our lives!

Today we had a fun day reviewing some of our good reader strategies.  We talked about how thankful we are that God forgives us and we forgive others because of God's love.  Your child should be bringing home a small book to read 3x and also a math sheet to finish side B.  Have a great night and don't forget to get outside and enjoy this wonderful fall weather.

Memory work for Thursday, September 26 is found on the bottom of pg. 12 in the Bible story book.  The memory verse is Acts 3:19.  "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out."

Hello Everyone!!

We'll be working on "Backing Up and Rereading" this next week!!  If it doesn't make sense, read it again!! Comprehension matters to good readers! :)  Encourage your student to look at the whole word and read all the way to the end.  I love to see how excited the kiddos are to tell me who they read to and how many times they read.  Keep up the good work and your help and support is already making a huge difference.  God's Blessings, Mrs. B

Can you believe we have already had three weeks of school?!  My class this year seems to really be getting into the routine of things.  They are excited about what we are learning and the fun we are having.  Today your child should be bringing home a math sheet, a story to read 3x and don't forget Memory is due on Monday.   Have a great weekend and have some fun with your first grader!

October 3rd is fast approaching and that is our field trip to the brickyard schoolhouse.  Your children should be bringing home a note about it today.  Please check for that.

Memory for Monday, September 23, is Hebrews 11:1.  "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
