We are so excited about the warmer weather!  It is finally SPRING!!!!!  Today your student is bringing home a note looking for helpers for the carnival this Friday.  This is a great PIP hour opportunity.  Also, Friday you student will be bringing home report cards.

In first grade we are reading, reading and reading some more.  We are having fun with our story this week.  Hope you are enjoying the reading at home.

What a great time we have been having in first grade.  We have been working hard on using prepositional phrases and specific adjectives to make our writing more descriptive.  If you happen to be in the hallway check out our stuffed animal descriptive writing.  Right now we are starting standardized testing.  It is a new and kind of fun thing for most first graders.

Just some normal learning fun in the Wonderful World of First Grade!  Here the kiddos are working on some math.

The students will have memory, math and reading to do this weekend.  Don't forget to make time to worship the Lord.

There is a typo in this week's menu.  K-3 will sing on April 5 at the 5:30p.m. service.

Gosh, I love these kids!  They are so fun!  Today we learned a really fun song in our bible time called, "The Fruit of the Spirit's not an Apple."  They had a great time singing it.  Maybe they will sing it to you!  

Your student should have memory work due on Thursday and math lesson 99 due tomorrow.  Tomorrow is also a lenten worship.  Prepare our hearts, oh God.

Well, here we are back from our Spring Break and we are having a great time learning and growing.  Today the first grade says, "We mustache you a question.  However, we can shave it for later!"  I love these kids!

Today is  Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season.  Lent is one of my favorite church seasons.  I love how it really makes me reflect on the amazing gift we have been given as children of God.

If you have never  done any special things with your child during lent you might consider something that would help your family reflect on the importance of this season.  Lent is wrought with meaning and symbolism but I wanted to share one fun activity to help focus on prayer.

Prayer Pretzels--

Did you know that the pretzel is a traditional food for lent?

When early Christians would pray, they would cross their arms and touch each shoulder with the opposite hand. They also fasted very strictly during lent, making their bread with only water, flour, and salt. A monk shaped this in the form of praying arms for children, and the pretzel was born! 

Soft Pretzel Recipe~ What you need:

• 1 package yeast
• 1 1/2 cups warm water
• 1 tablespoon sugar
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 4 cups flour
• 1 egg

Mix your yeast, water, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Stir in the flour, and knead until the dough is smooth. Shape into the form of arms crossed in prayer and place it on a baking sheet. Brush the dough with a beaten egg to give it a shiny finish.  Sprinkle the top with salt, and bake in an oven preheated to 425 degrees for 15 minutes.
